A Delhi court on Friday sentenced BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar to life imprisonment in the case of raping a minor girl in 2017 in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh on Sanger. It also directed that the rape victim be paid an additional Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the victim’s mother.
The court also orders the CBI to assess the perception of threat and provide necessary protection to the victim and his family. The CBI was directed to provide a safe house to the victim and her family. After the verdict, Kuldeep Singh was found crying along with his daughter and sister.
The judge said that the court has no problem at all. Sengar was a public servant and betrayed the trust of the people. The court also noted that Sanger’s conduct was to scare the rape survivors. On Monday, the court convicted the expelled BJP MLA and adjourned the hearing till December 20 on the order of quantum of sentence to Kuldeep Singh was done.
After being transferred here from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh on the instructions of the Supreme Court, District Judge Dharmesh Sharma heard the case daily from August 5.
Kuldeep Singh was a four-time BJP MLA from Bangarmau in Uttar Pradesh, has been charged under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and protection of children from sexual offenses. (POCSO) Was convicted under sections 5 (c) and 6 of the Act, which relates to penetrating sexual assault against a child by a public servant.
In this case, the court convicted Sanger is one of the five related cases that were transferred from Uttar Pradesh to the national capital. There are four other associated cases – the father of the rape convict being implicated in an illegal firearms case and his death in judicial custody, Kuldeep Singh Sengar conspiracy in a rape survivor case and his alleged gang rape by three other people in a separate case.
The woman’s father was allegedly implicated in an illegal firearms case and arrested on April 3, 2018. He died in judicial custody on April 9, 2018. The court is conducting a joint trial in both cases. It has framed murder and other charges against Sengar, his brother Atul Sengar, three former UP police officers, and six others in the case.
The statements of all the accused have been recorded in the cases, and the defense will submit a list of its witnesses on Tuesday. The rape survivor was allegedly abducted and abducted by three other people — Naresh Tiwari, Brijesh Yadav, and Shubham Singh – on June 11, 2017, in Unnao. The court has framed charges against the three, and the trial is yet to begin.
