Swearing-in will take place on Monday morning
Charanjit Singh Channi met Governor Banwari Lal Purohit at 6.30 pm and handed over letters of support to the MLAs. After leaving the Governor’s House, he told that there will be an oath-taking ceremony at 11 am on Monday, in which he will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Punjab. However, he did not give any answer about which new faces would get a place in his cabinet. At the same time, when asked about the Deputy CM, he asked to wait till the swearing-in. During this, Navjot Singh Sidhu, adamant on becoming the CM, was also seen standing with Channi. In such a situation, speculations are being made that Sidhu can be made Deputy CM.
Ambika Soni suggested
It is reported from the sources that internal voting took place in the Congress for the post of CM in Punjab, in which Sunil Jakhar got the maximum votes. On the other hand, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa stood second and Preneet Kaur stood third. But the party high command, playing a big bet on the Dalit face, stamped the name of Charanjit Singh Channi. Ambika Soni’s name was also included in the race for the new CM. But he refused to become the chief minister citing ill health. He had suggested making the Sikh face the CM.
Punjab has 58% Sikh voters
The number of voters and residents who follow Sikhism in Punjab is 58 percent. That is, most people believe in Sikhism. While 38 percent of the voters belong to Hinduism and the Dalit population is 32 percent. Not only this, all the Chief Ministers who have been made in Punjab so far, they are all Sikhs. Only three such chief ministers came who were from Hinduism. But seeing the social fabric of Punjab, the Congress high command has put such a Sikh leader on the chief minister’s chair, which is acceptable to both the camps.
