After a long time cricket has returned to Pakistan and teams like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and big players have gone to Pakistan. In such a situation, Pakistan has decided to host its T20 League Pakistan Super League for the first time this year. For the first time, the big credit for the PSL going to be in Pakistan goes to the Peshawar Jalmi team and their captain West Indies cricketer Daren Sammy who can now become a Pakistani citizen soon.
Darren Sammy is all set to become a Pakistani citizen. His franchisee Peshawar Zalmi has sent an application granting him honorary citizenship to the President of the country. Javed Afridi, the owner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Jalmi, did the whole process for his player Sammy and he hopes that the Caribbean cricketer’s application will be accepted.
Darren Sammy said It feels good coming here. I am very excited about playing PSL in Pakistan. I last came here for the final match in 2017. I am glad that the entire tournament will be here this time. I realize how much Pakistani fans have missed cricket in their country over the years. I have said before. I have played matches at home and abroad in my career. I know the fans of every country want to see their cricket players playing at their home and Pakistan has stayed away from it for a long time.
Let me tell you that Darren Sammy was the first international cricketer who gave his support for the start of cricket again in Pakistan. They have been together in all five seasons of Pakistan’s T20 League and have expressed their love for Pakistan on many occasions.
Captain Darren Sammy, who won two T20 World Cups to his country West Indies, has also submitted his application for citizenship of Pakistan. Darren Sammy is the first and only player to become a cricketer from St. Lucia Island.
Javed Afridi, the owner of Sammy’s team Peshawar Zalmi, told cricketpakistan.com.pk in an interview that Darren Sammy had applied for Pakistan’s citizenship. Javed Afridi said, ‘We have appealed to grant honorary citizenship to Sammy. This application is currently with the President. We have talked to the PCB chairman to help us in getting citizenship to Sammy.
