The Election Commission held an important meeting on this issue on Monday.
In this meeting, the letter of CM Charanjit Singh Channi, BJP, and Punjab Lok Congress Party was discuss. Everyone has written a letter to the Election Commission demanding extension of the date of polling on February 16 in view of Guru Ravidass Jayanti. All the parties had written separate letters to the Election Commission. Bahujan Samaj Party had also raised this demand.

It has written in the letter that due to the holy festival of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on 16 February, a large section of the state can go to Varanasi in advance. The basis of this appeal was give that the Scheduled Caste population, including Ravidassia and Ramdasi Sikhs, is more than 32 percent in the state, most of them have their reverence for Guru Ravidass, in such a situation, these devotees every year on Guru Ravidass Jayanti, Shri Guru Maharaj He goes to pay homage at the Samadhi locate in Varanasi. People also visit other holy places and pilgrimages associated with Sri Guru Ravidass. Therefore, having polling day on February 14, two days before the birth anniversary, will make a big difference because people will have gone on Bagh Kashi Yatra.

Nomination papers will filled by February 1. The final list of candidates will released on February 4. Exactly fifteen days will meet for promotion. Along with Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur, assembly elections are also due in Punjab next month. Voting will held in one phase in Punjab.
