On Sunday, Pushkar Singh Dhami took oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Along with him, 11 more MLAs also took oath as ministers. Many senior leaders of the party were angry with Dhami being elected CM, but after taking oath, everything will fine, nothing can said on this right now.
Dhami is the youngest Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Along with Dhami, 11 MLAs also took oath
Pushkar Singh Dhami, 45, took oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Sunday. On Friday, Tirath Singh Rawat had resigned from the post of Chief Minister citing the ‘constitutional crisis’.
On Sunday, along with Dhami, 11 more BJP MLAs also took oath as ministers.
These include Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat, Bansidhar Bhagat, Yashpal Arya, Bishan Singh Chaupal, Subodh Uniyal, Dhan Singh Rawat, Arvind Pandey, Ganesh Joshi, Rekha Arya and Swami Yatiswaranand.
But there was a lot of commotion before the Oath Taking Ceremony. On Saturday, the BJP suddenly announced the name of Pushkar Singh Dhami for the Chief Minister. This caused panic in the political circles, because no one had expected this. Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat, Yashpal Arya were among the first to leave the legislature party meeting as soon as Dhami’s name was announce at the party headquarters in Dehradun. He did not even talk to the media while leaving.
A day before there was no discussion of Pushkar Singh Dhami’s name anywhere.
No one had any idea that he would get the CM’s chair. Whereas, those close to former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat believed that this time either Satpal Maharaj or Dhan Singh Rawat could made the Chief Minister, but it did not happen.
As soon as Dhami’s name was announce, many senior party leaders are also angry that
He will have to work with them, as Dhami lacks administrative experience as well. “Our party has a constitutional process and democracy. But the party takes decisions based on time and circumstances. Many seniors who were contenders for the (chief minister’s post) are more capable than me. I am capable of furthering the interests of the state and the party. I will work with him for that.”
Pushkar Singh Dhami is a Thakur coming from Kumaon region.
Many believe that the BJP has chosen his name to set the caste and regional maths. BJP has tried to pacify the Thakurs by making Madan Kaushik the state president, Brahmin and Dhami as CM. All this is being done keeping in mind the assembly elections to held next year. But if Dhami does not get the support of his colleagues, then this math will fail.
Before the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, MLAs have started visiting Madan Kaushik’s house. Among them were leaders like Dhan Singh Rawat and Bishan Singh Chaupal, who till Saturday saw themselves as the next CM. The 66-year-old Choupal said about Dhami, “He has elected the leader of the legislature party and to become the chief minister you have to take oath.” However, it was not clear here whether he slipped his tongue here or whether it was a deliberate message sent to the party’s high command.
Dhami has to bring everyone together before the election
Had the party’s central leaders not intervened, the BJP would have faced embarrassment at the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. Because sources had told that leaders like Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat and Yashpal Arya had made up their mind not to attend the ceremony. All this happened only when the leaders of Delhi spoke to them.
Now less than 7 months are left for the election (Uttarakhand Assembly Election 2022).
Pushkar Singh Dhami will now have to work and win the trust of his colleagues as well as the voters, or it may be that many leaders may leave the party and join the Congress due to their displeasure. However, party insiders say “wait and watch” on this whole matter.
