Before the election of the new leader, Uttarakhand BJP President Madan Kaushik said that after electing the new leader, we will meet the Governor to form the government. Kaushik said that the Election Commission had no problem in holding the bypolls, but due to COVID, it could not materialise. In such a situation, resignation was the only option left. Kaushik said, “We are a national party. When we go to elections, we issue manifesto for the next 5 years and tell that we will work on them. In such a situation, whoever the Chief Minister is, that work will continue.”
Tirath Singh Rawat remained in the chief minister’s post for only four months.
Tirath Singh Rawat resigned on Friday evening to BJP President JP Nadda. Late in the night, he formally tendered his resignation to the governor. Rawat had met BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday morning. He has resigned due to constitutional crisis. In Dehradun, the BJP has 57 MLAs in the 70-seat assembly in Uttarakhand. Out of this, one seat of Gangotri BJP is vacant.
