Apna Dal (S) and Nishad Party are allies of BJP in UP. The political base of both these parties rests on the OBC community. Anupriya Patel comes from the Kurmi community of OBCs while Sanjay Nishad comes from the backward Mallah community. Both the communities are consider very important in the politics of the state. That is why the BJP does not want to ignore the leaders of both these parties, because the party does not want to create difficulties in its political path by keeping distance from them.
OBC’s role in BJP’s victory
Let us tell you that in the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP-led alliance got a thumping victory with 325 seats. The formula for this victory was prepared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, under which an alliance was make with the party of UP’s OBC leader Anupriya Patel and Om Prakash Rajbhar. The BJP had united non-Yadav OBCs to oust the SP in the state, under which both these OBC leaders were part of the same strategy.
However, his relationship with Om Prakash Rajbhar deteriorated as soon as the power was in the hands of Yogi Adityanath and after 2019 he broke away from the BJP alliance. At the same time, Anupriya Patel has been angry for a long time. She is yet to find a place in the Modi cabinet this time, while her husband and party president Ashish Patel has also been sitting in the state for many years hoping to become a minister.
