Before becoming the India head of WhatsApp Payment Services, Manesh Mahatme was a senior executive at Amazon. Where he overseeing the US product and engineering team. This included the payments business of online retailers, The Indian business of Amazon Pay. Prior to Amazon, Mahatme has worked in CitiGroup and Indian telecom company Bharti Airtel.

Facebook last year announced a $5.7 billion investment in Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Platforms. Which includes an agreement to accept WhatsApp payments across multiple digital platforms. WhatsApp had said in its March statement that WhatsApp Payment will facilitate Indians in digital transactions. WhatsApp plans to partner with Indian banks to provide financial services such as pension and insurance.
